I waited tables and tended bar for twelve years, and I can't remember one manager who didn't try to get every sick employee to come into work... in fact, I distinctly recall a couple of occasions in which employees were threatened with termination if they didn't show up to work when ill.

Working in the restaurant industry has made me extremely aware of my surroundings when eating out.
