Although I assume that the reason the atrocities committed by Muslims and/or in the name of Islam are listed is to show that religion doesn't seem capable of preventing the very worst human impulses. Sometimes it seems as if the more devout one becomes, the more likely that they'll find a way to use their religion as a justification for some truly horrifying acts. It's possible that those examples are being used as a response to the occasional claim that those who do not believe in god lack a moral anchor and are capable of the worst acts imaginable.(July 17, 2014 at 4:09 pm)Tonus Wrote: Just to be clear, your point is to remind us that when it comes to committing atrocities, Muslims aren't any different from anybody else?Exactly.
Committing atrocities is a human thing. Not "Islam" thing.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
