Who cares. I always nip that shit in the bud by saying that I don't believe in God anyway. I don't believe in a vague deistic God or a very specifically attributed on like that of your friend. So it doesn't matter to me what he believes god's characteristics are. I don't know why so many Atheists waste there time with the problem of evil or subtle variations of it like what is kind of posted here. The problem of evil only debunks omni-benevolence, not the existence of God. It's probably the most over used and weakest of arguments used by Atheists on these forums.
The real answer shouldn't be that suffering or natural disasters debunks his God, but that there isn't a good reason to believe in such a being in the first place. If such a specific creature existed, it would be there and we would all know about it. We would all physically be able to interact with it. We would be able to scientifically measure it like we can with everything that exists.
