I don't agree with the OP's philosophical ideas about it all being pointless. But, would Planet Earth be better off without humans living on it as we currently inhabit the Earth today? I'd say yes. We are causing global problems that we refuse to take care of or even attempt to solve that most certainly can spell our demise. But if we got our shit together, then we could reverse the trend and make the Earth a better place if not a Utopia for all living things that would actually benefit the planet and other life itself. So I'd say there is hope, instead of being hopeless about it all because there's no afterlife or purpose from on high. I pity the other animals we are bringing down with us more than ourselves. Mostly because, we should know better by now that we are the stewards of our planet, not some magical being from an old book. The other animals are just caught in the crossfire of our ignorance. But the main point is, if we die, that's not the end of the world, just the end of our species and Earth will move on just fine if not better.
If the hypothetical idea of an afterlife means more to you than the objectively true reality we all share, then you deserve no respect.
