It causes the defendant to spend money on lawyers and disrupts his life. In addition it clogs up the court system and requires jurors to disrupt their lives as well. The only people who make out are the lawyers.

The clinic folks were stupid to have contacted her once they read her resume. They should have simply tossed it instead of contacting her.
