Many people are nationalistic: only a few take it to a fanatical extreme. Many are proud of their race or ethnicity, but only a few take it to an extreme. Many people are fans of local sports teams, but only... you get the picture.
And many people are religious, but only a few take it to a fanatical extreme. In other words, religion is just another way that humans use to form like-minded social groups where they can feel protected and also which they can use to look down on those who do not belong. It is this natural us/them approach which leads the most fanatical members of the group to take extreme action, up to and including hurting or killing others.
One could reasonably expect that a form of tribalism specifically endorsed by the supreme being who created everything (including the human psyche that leads to the behavior described) would stand apart from all of the other forms. Specifically, that it would be superior and push humanity forward and upward. But it doesn't. Like any other form of tribalism, it brings small groups together and turns them against other groups. Few religions --if any!-- can even prevent fractures within the group! To me, that doesn't point to something that is from god.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
