We think we are using sex for pleasure, but I think the reality is more that the sex is using the pleasure to trick us into reproducing-- with all the personal inconveniences and losses of liberty that involves. And while we like to say, "Nah, not me, my vision's clear enough," we have to accept that the thousands upon thousands of cautionary tales walking around out there started with someone else saying exactly the same thing.
I think the ascetics have it right-- only by completely subjecting the body to the will can one really have liberty.
Plenty of animals, including of course humans, have sex for other reasons including pleasure, but chief among them, especially with such great apes as bonobos (where about 60% of sexual contact is female-female), is social bonding.
Luke: You don't believe in the Force, do you?
Han Solo: Kid, I've flown from one side of this galaxy to the other, and I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen *anything* to make me believe that there's one all-powerful Force controlling everything. 'Cause no mystical energy field controls *my* destiny. It's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense.
