Hamas talks about exterminating the jews. Israel is exterminating the Palestinians. Subtle distinction.
You are making this about big vs small. When you think in terms of evolution humans are going to want to get rid of something they think is hurting them. If the roles were reversed based on deep seeded religious tribalism the other side would do the same.
Think in terms of evolution, not moment in time or labels. Otherwise our species will keep repeating the same abuse on our fellow humans.
Friend and foe alike meet the same fate. When you know the age of the planet, the universe, and it's size, and our very short blip so far, our species still has a long way to go to figure out what is really important.
I cannot chose sides in this because both sides are right and both sides are wrong. But the biggest core reason is the stupid idea of religious nationalism. Neither's religion were around 200,000 years ago and this planet and our solar system and the universe has no capability of giving one fuck who lives or dies. Only our species can save itself.
