Imagine you had a kid, and you went to ridiculous lengths to ensure that this kid never saw you, heard your voice, felt your touch or smelled your beer farts. You communicate to this kid through so many layers of people that most of them can't agree on almost anything about you. Through this immensely-layered proxy, you demand that this child love you, and inform them that they have no right to expect anything in return for it because they're terrible and wicked and deserve nothing but death. They ask why they can't see you, and you that the only way that they can really love you is to never be sure you actually exist. If you were sure, that would fuck everything up for no sensible reason whatsoever, but they had better still love you, because you'll torture them forever if they don't. And maybe you'll kill them anyway, if you feel like it, because you have the right to do so.
Or, you don't have to imagine and you can just become a Christian.
