There has to be a common national identity for people to take pride in and to rally around, or else that nation will destablize. A one world community will never happen, or at the least, not survive long.

Identity is vital, but it's also a dangerous two edged sword. Conversely, I believe that destabilisation is the result of such insularity. No man, or nation is an island.

But the same can be said for a lot of things. Technology and discovery are vital, but they too can be dangerous two edged swords when used for malevolent purposes.

That depends. National and individual identity doesn't usually equate to isolationism, especially on the world stage. A national destabilization is the result of a culture that has eroded, usually over a time, to internal turmoils or outside influences.
