Polio returns to Israel
|
I remember watching a conversation a few years ago between Alan Alda and Itzhak Perlman where they talked about how they both had polio as boys. Alda was given medical treatment while Itzhak, who lived in Israel, was given a religious treatment of people writing sacred words on a paper which was burned and Itzhak had to inhale it.
Needless to say, Alda is fine now, while Itzhak Perlman is bound to the wheelchair his whole life.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
