Once upon a time, when we need to refer to a particularly sinister character in our society, we would refer to so and so as being our Beria. Beria was the chief of NKVD, predecessor to the KGB, under Stalin.

I just read some recent comments in European and Australian press about a particularly sinister character in the communist Chinese government, a former czar of internal security of china and responsible for suppression of internal dissent. This man was referred in these reports as China's Dick Cheney.

It has come a full circle.
