Um no, religion already is good at "scorched earth" mentality. Getting humans to a more secular attitude takes time. Neither side is going away but with louder voices and youth not buying into the tribalism of their parents, plus combat fatigue, things can change. The only trick is to keep the old guard from blowing things up.

YES Israel allows for gay marriage. That still does not change that if you do not share the label "Jew" you are a house guest in their social pecking order. They are basing national law on the Talmud, and Netenyahu said so. That is no different to me when even a liberal Christian says to me "you are equal" but this is a "Christian nation".
You cannot wink in law language at anyone. You can only have equal protection. It is not equal to say "I am special, and so are you, but I am most favored by my government".

You can argue that there is a group of people in Israel trying to turn the state into a religious one. On that I will agree, but it's far from being done - just as in the US, the Christian right is trying to turn the country into a Christian nation. But it's far from being done. And in both countries, there are vital opposition to that.
