I think people can have a high regard of themselves whether or not they believe in God or not. You can believe we humans are special regardless of beliefs in god(s) or not. You can also believe you are unique and cannot be replaced and are special in that sense.

You can think high of your attitude in life whether or not god(s) exist or not.

An Atheist can think more highly of themselves then a Theist and vice versa.
