There's nothing to hate.

But that could be shorthand for hating the idea of god, which pollutes people's brains. God doesn't have to exist to exert a malign influence upon weak minds.

Some people might hate the idea of god I guess. But I'm not of them. I'd actually be non-plussed if there was a god or gods, but it would depend on what kind of god they were. The imaginary death cult god of the bible vis, say, a god that gave out free coconuts. Again, I'm not really sure what a god even is.

You're right, though. Concepts can have a malign influence just as much as reality can. That's pretty self evident.
