This appears to agree with another experiment carried out also during the French Revolution, where the experimenter yells into the ear of the decapitated head, or prick it with a pin, to elicit response. In general the decapitated head responds to the stimuli about half a minute after decapitation. Then stop.
Although some heads kept responding for up to 2 minutes.
