As with most music I like to listen to, though, if it's fun to sing along with, fun to dance to, has a cool beat or instrumentation or other nebulously appealing quality such that I take a shine to then I'll listen to it.You're missing out on the unfiltered shit if your prime source is the radio. Underground hip hop has sort of merged with folk and punk philosophy. Like that country song I posted. Same thing goes with modern gypsy music. If you want fun dance music I highly recommend Afrobeat or Trip-Hop. There's also a resurrection of soul. Metal has sort of got back to it's psychedelic roots.
Typically by the time anything hits the radio, it's been dumbed down and buttfucked by a thousand publicists and branding managers to manufacture a cheap product to a broad audience of morons and tweenagers. It stops being about expressing anything meaningful and becomes about slanging plastic discs at Walmart. Of course there are many exceptions to the rule. But the rule is the rule.
