What I meant was that women have to go through pregnancy and rear the child, hopefully finding a long-term partner to help her with the process. Men have no such obligation, and can go impregnate as many women as they please. It would therefore be evolutionarily advantageous for women to be less promiscuous than men, and for men to have millions of sperm produced daily.
Of course, social evolution is running counter this, with monogamous relationships being the norm.
