Hi all,
I'm the feller who made the song the OP posted. I was directed here by a YouTube user. I appreciate the critiques but I'd like to clarify a few things.
I'm by no means a professional musician nor do I aspire to be. I'm a software engineer and SQL database developer by trade. My "music" experience is limited to the fact that I DJed in the 90's... before mainstream bubblegum cornball pop rap took over and ruined it all. Ironically, I also despise rap for what it's become, so I share the sentiment of some of the statements above.
I made this song as a rebuttal to a christian rapper (G MAN), who's a regular guest on the Drunken Peasants podcast. I started writing it when I heard his first... attempt. I wanted to send it to TJ (The Amazing Atheist) to maybe play on his channel against G MAN... for fun. As the song progressed I decided to make it more general and removed his name from the lyrics. It evolved to a point where I thought hey I can make a complete song out of this.
I made the beat with an old Yamaha keyboard and dusted off my old equipment to put it all together. I Googled how to compress/normalize/reduce noise from the vocals and worked arduously on the lyrics. I did my best to make it sound as good as I can with my crude methods. I mixed it using video editing software for crap's sake! Considering all things, I don't think it turned out too terrible.
Not everyone likes rap and I realize that these forums aren't exactly hip hop friendly... but as a community of non-believers, we should support and encourage any endeavor that advocates freethought and rational thinking... whatever the medium. I would think that my peers (you all), would at the very least appreciate the content for that reason.
Thanks for giving it a try anyway, and I do appreciate criticism. If I ever get inspired to throw together another one of these I'll definitely consider this feedback.
That is all. Thank you. May the sauce be with you
