It is good that you are searching, and that should never stop. There are many interesting people here with varied opinions, I'm sure you will receive much food for thought. The one question that stood out to me is your compound question below.
It assumes that atheism is a choice then asks why we made that choice. The fact is that one does not choose atheism, one simply ceases to believe in God, god, gods, or goddesses, or even Goddesses. The universe is wonderful; no gods required.
