I tend to think that lack of religion will lead to "socially liberal", consistent with libertarian, as an interventionist attitude about personal life choices won't have any basis without religion. If you don't think that certain lifestyle choices of no harm to anyone else won't anger an invisible sky daddy, why should the government get involved? There may be exceptions to this rule but I don't know of many atheists who are social conservatives.
Economic issues are another matter and more related to what people think works.
