It's about as eye witness as me, being 29 and not knowing anyone who was there, telling the story of what happened at Pearl Harbour during the Japanese attack.
But you'd have a good chance, with a bit of research, of getting things like the geography correct.
The Gospel writers don't even get the geography of their own alleged locations correct.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
