Ok, so in this scenario your beliefs and mine are in conflict. One of them is true and the other false, unless there's some third option neither of us has considered. Since you care about whether your beliefs are true, how would we set about finding out which is which?

You had to resort to the bible because without it the concepts of sin and concomitant forgiveness don't exist in reality. Sin is the brand name applied to thoughts and actions contrary to the pronouncements in the bible. Take away the bible, take away sin. That's true forgiveness for your sins, if you're looking for such a thing.
