It was not that long ago, that white Christian men, picked up bibles and justified slavery. It was not that long ago that white christian men beat up Susan B Anthony for wanting a right to vote.

Not to mention the dark ages, Inquisition and Crusades.
ALL religions are a result of our human ignorance of our natural grouping. They turn our natural behavior into a comic book to a political level.
All religions are like volcanos. They can be pretty when dormant, but all have the potential to explode.
In America we still have Christians trying to turn back the clock. We have Christians who want to control bodies they do not own. They discriminate against gays, and even liberal Christians through gerrymandering.
Having said that. Humans like Ann Frank, and Martin Luther King, and Malala, cannot be lumped in with the few who fuck things up for the rest of humanity.
Our species ability to be cruel or compassionate is in us. Not religion, not holy books, not political parties, race, boarders or class.
You wont get rid of Islam by force, anymore than they can rid the world of Christianity, anymore than atheist would want either trying to get rid of us.
Humans in the west have become more civil because of secular common law and it happened in spite of religion, not because of religion.
