Matthew 22:36-40New International Version (NIV)
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
If a person doesn't live by these standards, then that person is not following Christ, whether they call themselves christians or not.
From Matt 10:
Quote:10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
So what you really meant to say is that Jesus commands you to love, but firstly, he commands you to love him, even at the expense of your parents or children. If you love your family more than you love him, you'll spend Hell in eternity.
That's a very different kettle of fish than your cherry-picking would indicate.
Additionally, the fact that there are so many Christians whom you'd say are unChristian seems to be pretty good evidence that as a moral and ethical code, Christianity is not compelling. These people confess the faith. Who are you to judge them? And what would they say about your take on Christianity?
