It'd be interesting to see just how the explanations changed through the ages as more knowledge became available and god wasn't where he was expected to be found. I also wonder when was the first time someone finally got exasperated enough to exclaim "science can't explain EVERYTHING" because they were tired of pushing god into one corner after another.
