Fighting it isn't very productive since taking them down would be like trying to drain a lake with tea cups. Instead, I prefer to just sit back and laugh at their absurdity.
Um no, it is easy to say when that crap is not affecting someone you know. I would care alot less if they had a disclaimer on the website or are so blatantly obvious like the Onion.
Some of these assholes are slick mixing relatively mainstream stories and mixing it with conspiracy garbage to scare people.
The reason you don't take your eyes off of crap like this are things like Jim Jones and Heaven's gate.
THE NRA uses scare tactics too and are responsible for some followers feeling so threatened they threaten the government back.
I can understand most of what you're saying here, I can. My in-laws are big fans of Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Alex Jones.
But debunking an individual, conspiracy nut site isn't the way to go. There are just so many out there that, if you were to convince someone that one site is wrong, they can simply move onto the next. So my in-laws dismiss Glenn Beck; they simply move on to one of the million or so other conspiracy nuts online. There are just too many to really be able to have a significant impact from that angle.
If you really want to get real change, you don't go after the crackpot sites; you go after the people who believe in the site. Educate them.
