To sum up here are the problems with THC:
1. THC is not metabolised by the body, and removal is difficult. With prolonged regular use it builds up in fat cells. Thus if a patient wants to change medication after being prescribed THC for a length of time, THC will continue to be present in their system for months, or possibly even years.
2. It puts additional strain on your kidneys.
3. It's about as carcinogenic as tobacco. A person who smokes 2 joints, or bongs, a day (typical for someone with chronic pain) will increase their risk of cancer by the same amount as a person who smokes 2 cigarettes a day. This may be a lot less than the pack-a-day smoker who smokes 20, but it's certainly still significant. It's a public health issue because these preventable cancer suffers will require medical intervention costing the government and hence the taxpayer.
4. To be used medicinally I strongly feel it should be administrated without any of the carcinogens - i.e. the THC is distilled and delivered in a pill.
