Indeed, teaching religion can actually deconvert theists or drive those who already doubt it further away. However, I'm thinking of those who don't want to hear any of it. Religion doesn't give any useful information. No data, no greater understanding...just personal beliefs.
If kids/adults want to learn more about religion or a particular religion they can either reaserch it online or go visit a local church. Religion is only personal beliefs and so there is no reason for it to be taught in schools. Religion can be too quick to take advantage of childrens gulibility. So NO religion in any school below high school. Also the option to choose not to be taught it should be available.
Though teaching religion can bring about more atheists than less (and has in the past), I want to make sure religion can never try any of it's brain washing tricks on young children. They could try on those who have already matured and very capable of critical reasoning (that's if they don't opt out of it) but not the little ones.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan
Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.
Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.
You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.
