I always think it's funny when Atheists fret over whether or not to read the bible, qu'ran or go to church to keep some relative happy. I could go to church and it wouldn't have an affect on my beliefs. Actually I went to a 7th day Adventist Church pretty randomly about 3 years ago. I found it as uncompelling and boring as I found church when I was a child. However I also learned a little bit about what 7th day Adventists believe, got a free lunch and personally observed how old everyone is church was. Nothing spiritual happened, I wasn't converted, I was never close. There isn't anything wrong with going to Church as an Atheist. It is just silly and probably boring. Nothing magic happens in a church building. I find it rather similar to going to a political rally for a candidate you don't agree with. You could just be there to inform yourself better on someone else's opinion.
If you are struggling with your beliefs that is a different matter, but something totally independent of going to church with your dad. If that's the case just sit down and think about what you believe and what makes sense to you. That's all you can really do.
P.S. There is no God.
