In my own country, most of the population is Christian so many American Atheists will have a family member who is both gay and Christian so this effects more then just gay Christians.

It isn't as if right wing Christians leave their religion at home when they vote. The only reason that my state passed a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage is because of conservative religious people
