Not sure, but at some point, something as simple as revulsion may come into play as well. If you're tought your whole life, don't eat pork, you don't eat it because it disgusts you. I wouldn't eat certain things because our culture doesn't eat them and feel revulsion at the mere thought of trying it.
Fair enough. But with a specifically religious reason for not eating it I thought it odd. I'm sure the grease was mingling.
