I didn't play the second part, since the demo alone was enough to put me off.
Honestly?
The second game gets a bad rap but I still think it was on par with the first. The companions were slightly less memorable and the environments were lazily put together but it was still a pretty great game.
If I remember correctly, the demo is the opening sequence to the game. That's probably the WORST part they could have used. I'd say give it another go, it's worth it, the story is really a lot better than most people say it is.
Gameplay wise, some people prefer the tactical aspect of the first game and others prefer the hack n slash style from the second. I can only speak for consoles, I know it's different for PC. The third game just improved on all the aspects of the second in terms of combat, although you can switch to a 'tactical camera' which pauses time and you can issue orders and all that stuff. I never use it though. As long as the gameplay doesn't get monotonous or boring over long periods it's actually secondary to me to a great many other aspects. I don't play bioware games for the combat really. Having said that, IMO it's pretty damn fun to play. I don't normally like playing as an archer in these games but it's probably the most fun class I've played with, followed closely by a mage. The class I'm using though is a dual wield assassin. Cliché, but it's badass.
