That is exactly what I thought too since our history is full of flood myths from all over the world. It makes more sense to think that these were local floods that from the perspective of the author was considered a global flood since his view of the size and breadth of the world was limited.
When your whole world is pretty much the distance you can walk in a day, a flood on the scale of the Black Sea innundation would basically represent a global event.
If you're not supposed to ride faster than your guardian angel can fly then mine had better get a bloody SR-71.
