Yet another accidental shooting.

Here is an update to the story:

While the chief readily told the 911 operator that he shot his wife, some of his answers to the operator’s questions were contradictory; at one point he said the gun discharged when he was moving it from the bed and later he said he and his wife were both asleep when he shot her with his department-issued Glock.

Police Chief or not, this man should not possess a firearm because he is stupid. I'm also suspicious of the story being told. Both sleeping when he shot her? Sleep-shooting? Seriously? If true, that's reason enough to never allow this man to have a gun.

Why in the fuck was a loaded gun in the bed to begin with? I can perhaps understand under the bed, in a nightstand drawer, or even on the nightstand. In the bed next to his sleeping wife seems a tad irresponsible. What a moron.

I'm also tired of the now ubiquitous 'the gun discharged' bullshit. It's up there with the 'I misspoke' euphemism for lying. 'The gun discharged' is a euphemism for 'some ignoramus pulled the trigger'. Sure, there are cases of malfunctioning weapons, but not at the rate at which firearms are said to simply 'discharge' during accidental shootings.
