Try to see the humor in it. What does "it's just a lifestyle" actually say about the ones blurting it out? That they are at least as attracted to their own gender as they are to the opposite gender. They're deep in the closet, since I for one wouldn't wake up one day and suddenly be attracted to men.
Oh yes I agree, I do think the most vocal homophobes are usually closet cases themselves.
It's just frustrating, because if people think "it's a choice" it gives them carte blanche to say what they like.
