we do elect a government,but the king or queen remains the unelected, hereditary head of state. The newly elected party leader following a general election "asks permission " of the royal, after a bit of bowing and scraping, to form a government.
The royal family is also the apex of the triangle of the class structure of the uk. It represents the most privileged class in the land.
It does nothing for the working/underclasses.
A man is born to a virgin mother, lives, dies, comes alive again and then disappears into the clouds to become his Dad. How likely is that?
