First of all, who said that military people shouldn't go where their country wanted them to go? No person who joins the military is ignorant of the fact that they might be called on to give their lives or kill someone; however, it is hard to understand how anyone could be so nonchalant about the potential loss of so many lives. War should always be a last resort. The death of soldiers doesn't just affect the individual soldier but his loved ones also. In the case of children, it can be pretty shattering to realize that your parent died in a war that most people consider unnecessary.

You wanted to talk about France's freedom of speech laws but the way that you started this thread is guaranteed to start a conversation about anything but free speech.

The way I started this thread was an assault on France for hypocritically flying the banner of free speech when in fact they seem to only value it when it is against religion. i wanted to see how deep this all went. If support of France's decision to jail those speaking out against the goverment in the name of religion was bothering anyone, or if they felt it justified in jailing those who supported their religion over the state.

This is a very slippery slope. Once people start down this path I dont know how we will ever recover from it.
