Humanist Home Groups?

I've been to atheist/skeptic/humanist (why don't we have a cool string of letters like LGBT?)

That would be cool: ASHD(Atheist, Skeptic, Humanist, Deist)

So picture this: Home fellowship groups. A dozen or more people gathered in someone's home, with a conversation-starter of some sort. Could be something interesting you read recently, or a study that's in the news, or a TED talk, or whatever. Just something to kick off conversation.

That would be cool. We could discuss atheism and skepticism, and invite open minded religious people to the group so they can learn about the Atheist/Skeptic/Humanist movements and what we stand for instead of them listening to their religion demonizing us as if we're trash.

Plus BYO munchies & beer/wine, and just plain hanging out and talking.

That'd be cool, but what if people just show up for the food? It would be difficult to retain participants if they only attend for the food.

What do you folks think? Would you be up for something like this in your area? Does it seem useful at all?

I would, but I don't have many openly atheist friends. I have an Atheist cousin. But I still don't know too many atheists to be able to actually start this sort of thing and be successful about it.
