A lot of people like dedicating themselves to a political ideology, yet not one is proven to be true - Depending on the circumstances, some ideologies worked and didn't work depending on many factors and different people have different conceptions of how Man should live politically. There is not one right political ideology. Yet people choose one; it gives them a sense a belonging and something to fight for.
--> Of course it's a little different since ideologies have an idea to be achieved that can be measured and it's not impossible to exist; but the point is that people like being part of groups that give them a sense of belonging.
I don't buy into the idea that we must erase religion at all costs, there would be benefits, but it's naive to think that all of the world's problems can be solved by eliminating religion - Even those problems caused by religion are ingrained in other social institutions and therefore erasing religion wouldn't automatically fix them.
Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you
