No, you're right: I should definitely take the word of some random guy who's never met the man in question, over that of his own mother. That seems like the rational course of action, as it's clear that the person who has never met him would know more about him than his parent.
Oh wait: I don't have to do either. I can read what the man himself said about god, just before heading to freaking bible college.
