I would imagine there are three main reasons why this isn't followed any more:

1) Christians don't know their own holy book
2) Christians ignore their holy book when it disagrees with them
3) Christians know that secular law is going to stop them doing this stuff, regardless of how much God "wills it"

Actually, that pretty much covers everything in the bible.
