Catholic vandal on trial: punishment would be an "attack on Christians."

So, the woman who vandalised a satanic monument in Florida went on trial the other day. Predictably, the logic used in her defense is large on lip-trembling persecution porn, and light on rationality or remorse:

“We are not sure there was a crime,” Hemeryck’s attorney Mike Bauer said. “I think this case represents the state basically putting an attack on Christians. That would be her viewpoint.”

Why is it that this is the attitude of so many fundamentalist christians, that they should be able to do whatever they like and not face any consequences?

It sounds like she was following the First Commandment from Exodus 34:12-13 (NLT), which says in part = “Be very careful never to make a treaty with the people who live in the land where you are going. If you do, you will follow their evil ways and be trapped. 13 Instead, you must break down their pagan altars, smash their sacred pillars, and cut down their Asherah poles."

Moses must have been talking to her.
