What is goodness?
How/in what way can something be good?
Hi, @Ignorant.
If you are getting at using God as the ground good, I have a better idea for you. Instead of using God why don't we use me? watchamadoodle will be the ground of all good instead of God. At least I know I exist.
You are right that it is hard to define good, but it is also hard to define God, and we don't even know if God exists. Using God as the ground of good doesn't help IMO.
Well, that isn't what I am getting at. I know what I mean by good, but I don't know what you mean by it (which is why I asked). I don't use God as "the ground good". It is ok if you don't have a way of expressing it, but you (and others here) clearly have a particular understanding of "goodness" which you find contradictory to God (particularly his actions as they are supposedly described in the bible). I would like to know what that understanding is, and where it came from if possible?
And thanks for the welcome!

If you take the bible out of the equation then to say God is good means as much as you saying you are good or I am good. It becomes a trivial discussion based on what a given person believes to be good.
Which again is why I bring up 'good' nazis. All it takes for one to be considered 'good' in a given culture is popular belief. For if you were raised to n a genocidal culture to be considered 'good' is to follow popular belief.
That begs the question is God 'good' given what popular culture deems to be acceptable behavior? No. But, again so what? When did pop culture EVER reflect what true good/righteousness is? Pop culture is always been about being with in the bounds of the lessor of two evils.. That is why we all eventually devolve into a nazi/ISIS type of self righteousness. The only thing is their isn't always a society or being to oppose the biggest bully/society on the planet right away,no the biggest bully's self righteousness gets left unchecked.
Good can be determined by objective means. Is abandoning/killing people for being disobedient good? No. If we all did that, everyone would be killing their children left and right, and the species would die off quickly. We don't need the bible to tell us this. Not that the bible tells us not to kill children for disobedience. It pretty much says the reverse.
That is an action described as good or bad. So what do you mean when you say a thing (e.g. god) is good or bad?
