When I was 18 the first Halo came out and spawned a very addictive competitive gaming scene. I spent '02-'04 playing nonstop and winning some decent money. When life started happening, I saw that it was time to cut back. But that type of competitive gaming is hard to break away from and that's what I see a few a my friends having trouble handling.
Other than that, I too just view them as interactive stories. No need to give them up. Hell, I couldn't give them up if I wanted to now; my daughter won't venture into caves without me.
