Well, I got derailed into discussing a "generic Deist God," but to me there is only one God, the very same as your "preposterous Christian God." I can't help but argue as though they are one and the same.
Most atheists deride, mock and scorn anyone who believes in a God of any kind. There is plenty of evidence here on the countless posts/threads that this forum is no different.
While I agree that most atheists don't really think the existence of God impossible, they certainly don't make any effort to make it seem that way.
