If we consider the fact that God is at least somewhat similar to people (who were created in His image) and that there were no external reasons to create a world then the only reason why He created it was boredom. Think about it. You had been bored and created a 'strategic game' with some pretty sophisticated A.I. for yourself. You can sympathise with the 'npc's' to some extent and keep the 'game' or get frustrated or bored again and scrap it. Or just leave it alone and create a new one. But there's no reason to bound yourself with the rules.
True but then you cannot tell people to do as you do and at the same time tell them the opposite in your book of rules that humans are to follow.
Then again, that could keep the game going forever if people are too stupid to recognize the contradictions.
I think we dithered out the problem. Stupid people.

Of course, if this is just a game, it defends the idea of an omnipotent god, but only at the expense of his moral leadership, in which case the Abrahamic faiths are incorrect.
I think they know this but like the money too much to be truthful with the sheep.
All mainstream religious hierarchies lie constantly and they too tell their sheep to do as they say and not as they do.
