Question: How would that same incident have turned out in the USA?

A "madman" would have been killed. Is the world in such need of saving antisocial madmen that we must ask policemen to risk their own lives in dealing with them? Why do we fall all over ourselves praising and honoring soldiers that kill "opposing madmen" without ever giving them much of a chance to surrender, but vilify policemen that sometimes don't go to extreme lengths?
