The scenario takes place in the segregated South during the 1950s when Blacks were required to ride in the back of buses. On one particular day a certain bus driver became agitated when the Black riders and the White riders continually argued back and forth about who got to sit up front and who had to sit in the back. Finally the bus driver had enough and he pulled over to the side of the road and ordered everyone out of the bus. "Alright! I'm getting sick and tired of all this arguing about who sits up front and who sits in the back! From now on, there's no more White and there's no more Black! We're all Green! Is that understood?" The riders, feeling ashamed, all agreed. To which the bus driver responded, "Alright, then. Everybody back on the bus! Light Greens up front! Dark Greens in the back!"
