Can we say that there's an uptick in racism, or is it just that everyone has a smart phone these days, and you can post a video on youtube inside the span of five minutes (where it could potentially get millions of views, and even wind up on the news if its controversial enough)?
So then, should we really concern ourselves with these isolated incidents (keeping in mind, in a nation of over 330 million people, these isolated events are, quite frankly, statistically insignificant, in themselves not representative of any sort of trend). At best, anecdotal reports like this can be legitimately used to provide an example of disturbing trends, but they have to be accompanied by studies (with statistical evidence) that shows a trend does indeed exist. Otherwise, it's just more b/s to keep us preoccupied with irrelevant chatter, while income inequality grows, public services get privatized, jobs are shipped overseas, and our quality of life steadily declines.
Stop drinking the Kool Aid folks!
